A friend recently published a book about Libertarianism. The reader may find it an excellent primer on the subject of personal liberty. As the name states, it will certainly help you understand this growing political movement in America. Perhaps it will pave the way to more classic political thinkers like Hayek. Like many books, my own included, it is hoped that citizens might use these works as a springboard to civil participation and personal responsibility.

If you think Holden Caulfield gave us much to consider, meet Ignatius J. Reilly.  Walk with him through the culture of 1960's New Orleans.  This book was written by John Kennedy Toole before his suicide in 1969, frustrated by the lack of notice his work received. (I know the feeling.) It was salvaged by his mother and given to Walker Percy (a man with quite a story of his own) at Loyola University. The posthumous publication went on to win a Pulitzer.

Among a myriad of local quirks the will strike you, if you are a stranger to the Big Easy, is the accent found in some of the cities enclaves. Thanks to the influence of Sicilian, Irish and German families drawn to the area, the places where they dominated the culture developed the same accent as North Jersey and New York. In fact there was a Sicilian Mob in NOLA before there was the Mafia in NY. You can check that out.
