Getting down to business.
I will dispense with Gaetz’s odd coup in Tuesday’s podcast, which promises to be a good one.
In the meantime let’s consider a new Speaker. My suggestion will have the effect of teasing out where real support lies in the polls below the level of Trump. At the same time it provides an option that few, if any, GOP Reps can fight. It immediately eliminates Gaetz from the ranks of rebels.
Name Ron DeSantis as the next speaker. Why?
He’s a serious guy. He is an accomplished guy.
He is strong enough NOT be driven by the prevailing breezes.
It shuffles the poll numbers such that a new face can garner new interest. This could get interest gelling around one of the trailing candidates and might even get people thinking about someone else besides DJT. I will still say that none of the numbers mean ANYTHING until after the first two or three state primaries. But it becomes interesting.
It reduces the power of the congressional insiders and throws old cliques into disarray.
Gaetz NEEDS DeSantis to forward his plans in FL as a governor or senator.
This one is an opinion. I think DeSantis is motivated by good intentions. He is capable making deals and working across the aisle, but he won’t do so for the sake of expediency. And…
His idea of compromise won’t be give the Dems everything in exchange for an insult…even if it leads to a shutdown.
