Just Apply Common Sense and WIN! Part 2
Now, Canada.
Here we have an example of two Trump weak spots.
First, the “51st state” jokes and the “Governor Trudeau” jokes at Mar-a-lago had the exact desired effect and got serious discussion about Canada rolling. It also sparked interest in the conservative party, up there in America’s hat. But that is where the trolling should have ended.
In his first term, I was very critical of his blustering with China AND the EU at the same time. Instead of getting easy, low-hanging fruit by zeroing in on EU trade FIRST (full pressure - he would have prevailed), he launched an impulsive, all-at-once offensive at both entities. He got a clean auto trade deal with Germany, WHICH HE TURNED DOWN! He said he wanted a deal that gave us extra advantages - STUPID. And he got a $50 billion commitment from China to buy veggies and wheat from us. That’s a mosquito bite, and they have honored that commitment sporadically.
And now we’re here with Canada, DOGE, Ukraine, EU again, China again…
The continued trolling has done nothing but reinvigorate the flagging liberals in Canada. They will now likely hold power unless Trump does something to make the average Canadian love us again.
In fairness, the truth is Canada has ridiculous tariffs on US goods right now. Their decrying our potential tariffs is wildly hypocritical. I’ll deal with the wider tariff realities in a few days. For now, just listen to VDH and share so others might as well.
