The GOP needs to take a valium after the Tennessee election
Keep calm and keep adulting.
I’m reading articles like this one at Yahoo. GOP frets ‘dangerous’ result in Tennessee. If the party is just trying to maintain urgency for the ‘26 midterms, I guess that’s sort of okay.
But we are the party of grownups. We like to hear what the real deal is. We don’t believe boys can be girls. We don’t believe in guaranteed minimum income, or any of the other fantasies pushed by the party of perpetual teenagers. With the GOP, if you win the argument, you win the election.
Right now the Republicans are in a tizzy about winning Tennessee by a smaller margin than Trump won it. They think this marks a dangerous trend. Relax.
My biggest complaint about the Right in general is their piss poor participation in elections. We tend to be really lazy. Even in presidential elections, with all the hype and talk of the nation going off a cliff if the other guy gets in, the GOP has an abysmal voting record.
So, an off-year, special election where we may have felt a bit complacent, and where the Dems spent wildly and brought in everybody but Joe Biden to stump for their pathetic candidate, where more than half of our voters likely didn’t turn out, and we win by nine points? Cheer up, bitches!
Don’t tell the GOP voter the trend is against us. Tell them the truth. We could have won by 20 points if more voters turned out. Tell them that is what will be needed in Tennessee and across the country in 2026. Tell them it is in their personal interest for the GOP to sweep in ‘26. Tell them if they want their work and fortunes squandered by a government run by children, then by all means, stay home.
I’ll give you one “for instance”.
In her graceless concession call to Van Epps, the Dem loser, Behn lectured him on how to do his job in DC. The example she used is emblematic of everything that is wrong with this country. She told him to protect Obamacare subsidies.
Obamacare is the worst thing to happen to the American people since FDR. It has not done ANYTHING to improve healthcare and has made insurance FAR MORE expensive for everyone. What Van Epps and the GOP MUST do is get the federal government OUT of the insurance business altogether. At the moment, we likely don’t have the votes to pull that off. But letting the subsidies expire, showing everyone how much Obamacare REALLY costs, will go a long way in winning the argument for free market health insurance. Do we have the balls and brains to make the case?
If we want adults to represent them in DC and the state houses, if we don’t want our kids indoctrinated into stupidity, we need to put on our big boy pants and go vote.
Win the argument. Don’t fret over trends and polls. That is all you need to do.
