A few days ago I opened my argument on the Middle East and elsewhere. I laid out in general terms what might be hot spots around the world and questioned the idea of it all leading to WWIII. I declared myself an agnostic on the idea, but even my own arguments point to a serious conflagration. If you haven’t seen this episode yet, you can listen to or read the discussion here.

As if following up on my basic argument, and doing a fine job of it, Noah Smith put together a much more specific description of the areas I am most concerned with. Of note, the Balkans are much further along than I had realized. Noah also took a deeper dive into the economics. His charts are great, but will look much different in 2 or 3 years regardless of what happens in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Pax Americana refers to the period in which our Navy sailed the oceans blue and protected, thereby incentivizing, development and trade through the world.
