Don’t kid yourself. The American Left doesn’t give a rat’s ass what becomes of Ukraine. The fact is that Donald Trump, and clearly now J.D. Vance, have taken a position of ending the Ukraine war with NO unrealistic expectations. So the Left is against it.

Myths of WWII.

We speak of our victory in World War II as essentially the bravery of the American soldier having made it possible. In reality, it was the industrial might of the United States that made it possible. In fact, because of that might, no other outcome was possible. We kept the ungrateful Soviets afloat with it. We kept England in the game with it.

And as true as it is that the American soldier was nothing short of badass in every theater of the war, that war was a done deal on December 7, 1941. Even Japan knew it. Hitler might have been too crazy to see it by then, but everybody else on the planet KNEW it.

That’s because we created a situation whereby all the industrialized nations aligned against the Axis could send WAVES of troops and hardware against an ever shrinking enemy. With all due respect to the American fighting man, THAT is why we won.

Have no such illusions about Ukraine EVER sending a wave of troops against Moscow. That will NEVER happen. It is a numerical impossibility.

The new illusion

Somehow, I guess by simply remaining on the opposite side of the issue than the terrible Orange Man, the Left has managed to make Zelenskyy into a larger-than-life propaganda hero. So, today’s Oval Office meeting is coming as a shock to those same naive Lefties. For three years now, the comedian-turned-world leader has had an easy time of it vs the rest of the world, if not with Russia. He has never been challenged on his views about a victorious Ukraine, or at least an advantageous peace.

It should be worth remembering that there was a peace deal in the can in the first months, if not weeks of the war. Biden and NATO nixed it. It was a shiny object for Joe Duh and a means by which to feed their cronies in the military industrial complex around the world. Now, three years later, Zelenskyy and the oligarchs, who have been skimming our money, are vested! They’ll keep sending in the meat for as long as the money holds out.

Well, Trump’s message to him today was, basically, we have no intention of going shoulder-to-shoulder with you against another country - any other country! You can have peace, or you can have the eventual destruction of your country. What you cannot have (and they’ve done nothing to deserve this) is the United states going all in for victory in Ukraine. It is an unattainable goal for Ukraine as things stand, and we will not sacrifice our kids to make it happen.

Only a TDS-addled moron, or a crony in the military industrial complex, would see the picture differently. Eventually, Ukraine will run out of young people to send into the meat grinder, NO MATTER WHAT WE GIVE THEM! At that time, Ukraine will be overrun. And that day is rapidly approaching.

My heart has always been with Ukraine. There is nothing I’d like better than to see the Little Russian Jerkoff meet an end similar to Mussolini. But what I would love to see happen does not line up with the truth on the ground. And no matter what the political whores in DC tell you, going to war with Putin over the Donbas is NOT in our national interest.

Here’s where the White House fell down.

Two heads of state should NEVER sit down to ink a deal until it is rock solid. Trump and the State Department let Zelenskyy walk in to sign a deal knowing he was not ready.

This my be one of the Donald’s negotiation techniques. But it looked really ham-handed from the cheap seats. We ought not do that again.

Let Europe do Europe.

There is no reason the US should be the security guarantor of Ukraine’s security. We should make it clear that the security of Europe lies with Europe, not the US and not even NATO. If they see the danger of an aggressive Putin and want to take preventative steps, they should absolutely do so. But that is not an Article 5 issue.

And this is where Europe has fallen short before. When told the same thing before, they backed down form playing the cop. Poland, Sweden and Finland could serve the role of peace keeper tomorrow. Let them.
