The Kirk memorial put me in mind of Reginald Denny. He was the guy beaten nearly to death during the Rodney King riots. Damian Williams took the opportunity to smash Denny’s skull with a brick, while Denny was on the ground, already having been beaten by a crowd. Williams was pretending it was all because of the Rodney King beating.
The Denny beating was actually a crowd of lowlifes, using King as an excuse to be…well…lowlifes. This is especially true of Williams. He was having a ball.
In the sentencing phase for Williams’ clear attempt at murder, Denny made a stark display of forgiveness. He hugged Damian’s mother. And the weak-ass legal system took this as an excuse to go lightly on the subhuman Freddie Williams. He was out in 4 years.
In case you thought I was being presumptuous about the Rodney King connection, the scum, Williams would go back to prison soon after for a successful murder.
Christianity mandates we love and forgive, and for some, I don’t see how, such forgiveness is considered cathartic. What is it NOT is dispositive of our legal obligations as a state or nation. That Charlie Kirk’s wife forgave her husband’s assassin, is not an excuse for the state to treat that piece of shit in any way differently than if she hadn’t forgiven him. Her amazing gesture has no connection to what should be the outcome of the coming trial - death row.
It’s not the role of the state to forgive, or not forgive. It is for the state to mete out requisite justice. Every member of Turning Point USA can file by and forgive the shooter, as unworthy as he is, between now the the day the state finally puts him down. It should not change the outcome.
I admired Charlie. There is little light between me and him on political points. His faith means nothing to me, except to say that he had the courage of his convictions. Erika, by virtue of that faith, is burdened with the mandate to forgive. I am not. Therefore I DO NOT. As I DO NOT forgive the 9/11 subhumans or the 10/7 subhumans, or the Oklahoma City and all the church and nightclub shooting subhumans. And I’ll never lose a minute of sleep over it. I wish them all, along with Damian Williams and Tyler Robinson every misery life has to offer.
We can, and should, admire Erika’s forthright exercise of the faith she holds. But Utah especially MUST NOT be distracted by it.
