Well, Look How That Turned Out!

If you harbor hatred for the Donald, stick it in your pocket for a few minutes and pay attention.

Since 2015, Trump has been insisting Europe generally, and NATO specifically, step up to the plate and take more responsibility for it’s own security and defense. And how the Left, on both sides of the Atlantic, did laugh.

So, he said if you don’t carry more of the load, we will not be bound by treaty to defend you - you’re shirking your obligations. THAT got their attention. Immediately contributions across Europe jumped.

Then under Obama’s third term, a few countries start slouching again. And with the return of Trump, boom! At least 2.5% almost uniformly. Still, because of our size and all the shit we have to carry for allies, we spend almost 15% of our budget on Defense. But, no matter.

In his 2024 campaign, and until now, Trump has insisted he intended to find peace in Eastern Europe. He warned he was NOT looking to make Ukraine victorious (a fool’s errand anyway), but to end the killing.

It was here the chattering class and the do nothing politicians thought they had him. After a month they were jeering, “you said you’d have peace on day one! You didn’t HAH!”

But what Trump did have within two weeks of taking office is BOTH SIDES talking to HIM about peace. That was more than Barry O’Biden ever INTENDED to seek. They had a shiny object and a constant flow of money to the cronies in the Defense industry. They didn’t care how many Eastern European kids died.

Then came the meeting with Z in the White House. Yeah, he was cocky. I don’t feign shock and offense. But it was a stupid tactic. He’s gotten so used to having his way in terms of cash, he feels he’s been abused in not getting his way with the bear he chose to poke. Then he got really stupid. He spent the weekend digging in his heels and speaking ill of the Donald.

But was that actually a problem? Or was it an outcome calculated by pointy heads in the Trump administration? Predictably, Trump became the money Nazi…NO CASH FOR YOU! When Europe had a collective hissy fit, Trump told them to fund the problem themselves. They collectively have a bigger GDP than we do. They claim to be a Union of states. And it was clear he wasn’t takin’ a piss on this one.

Dems in this country absolutely got the vapors. Cries of fascist and dictator were bandied about, of course. Although, absolutely no one can explain how those terms apply here.

Then, lo and behold, heavens to Betsy, oh my g’ness! We get this from Ursula von der Leyen, head of the EU.

Wrap your head around this:

There is no scenario whereby Ukraine ever marches on Moscow and is victorious. EVER! It is a numerical impossibility. Without a peace deal - NOW - Ukraine will simply plow their youth into the meat grinder until it ceases to exist as a nation. They already have press gangs roaming the streets collecting “draftees”.

Then who fills the void? By keeping this pointless exercise alive, the people throwing money and bullets at the problem will have all the blood of a nation’s youth on their hands. The United States SHOULD reject that role. So should Europe.

It seems, with their new-found guts, they intend to keep the killing machine rolling. Okay, fine. But when Ukraine dies, and it will, there will be a fire sale on land and infrastructure in Kiev,1 run by the Russians. What will the EU do then? To be certain, we should be under no Article 5 obligations, as the situation was brought about by Europe. They CHOSE war over a less than satisfactory peace plan. If they have to march on Ukraine to fix what they screwed up, we damn sure shouldn’t be a part of THAT!

But let’s get back to the way Trump negotiates; calculates. This is the kind of outcome that will definitely have Putin stroking his chin. He is now in as much of a no-win situation as Zellenskyy.

He will not go to the EU. That leaves the Donald standing there with a pen -smiling
