My favorite source to quote and foil to argue with, Peter Zeihan, has been on one of his I HATE DONALD jags for weeks now. He’s calling it the fire hose of chaos. When it comes to politics, he’s nothing if not a talking point loyalist for the Dems.

This is one of those episodes where Peter leaves out a lot, accidentally or intentionally, which will reduce the impact of his dire, I HATE DONALD, doom and gloom. We produce less of everything he names, except for specialty crops than we have in the past. This is due to land speculation, bullshit fertilizer restrictions and climate change bullshit.

In the slightly more distant past (before the emergence of China and some other economies, the majority of what we grew we ate. So, with an increase in domestic supply, prices will drop, fluxuations WILL occur, but the market WILL stabilize. Offal can be used in pet food so we can absorb the lips and assholes problem. AND, when the tariff bullshit dies down, and it will, we will find ourselves in very much the same place we were at the beginning or in a better place.

Most of our foreign trade will recover. China is going to collapse in this decade anyway (we learned that from Peter) so at worst Trump is wrecking that market a year or two sooner. But even they will have to eat. We're still the big kid on the block. Always divide Peter's rants about Trump by at least ten.
