I’ll discuss the work of an old friend, Austin Camacho in just a bit. First, let me address the children out there crying about a parade.
This week is the Army’s 250th Birthday. This is a big deal. The Navy will turn 250 later in the year. In fact, I’ll leave links where you can get some gear honoring the services. Turn out or catch the events on TV and whisper a thank you.
To celebrate a parade was arranged. To be sure, the idea and plans for the parade were in the works for over a year. These things aren’t arranged over a weekend. Units need to be freed up, shows like the Thunderbirds need to have the event folded into their calendar FAR in advance. And you can take this to the bank: This event would have happened if the bag o’ bones was still in office or even it the Cacklin’ Hyena won.
The Right would have been fine with it. And the Left would have been wrapping themselves in red, white and blue and played at being patriotic for weeks, before and after the parade.
BUT…
Orange Man in office and Orange Man bad. Also, Orange man have birthday, today. So now, according to the children massing for their breathy, emotional, “No Kings” rallies, across the country, are calling the parade a fascist parade. Ooooo! My high school drama teacher would be impressed.
One of the incredibly stupid notions they are whining about is that money is being spent on the “fascist” parade that could go to feeding starving kids, or gone to Medicaid.
Again, this event would have gone off gangbusters, if a Lefty was in office. No complaints.
The Navy is planning a regatta and events in Philadelphia later in the year for their birthday. To be certain, DJT will be in attendance on the biggest day. So the regatta will be declared a “fascist” regatta. Antifa poofs and man buns, organized by the Tides foundation, among others, will be there to try to ruin the event.
And you can ALWAYS count on the Karens in the world to ruin every pleasant experience we might enjoy without their miserable input.
The cries about starving kids and Medicaid, etc are just straw arguments. They mix such drivel in with words like fascist and racist, especially in the last few years, because they have absolutely NO solutions or ideas to offer ANYONE. And what they do occasionally offer fails miserably or is laughed off the stage.
Congress still uses base line budgeting. That means every single year, even with CRs, Congress inflates the previous year’s budget, especially for things like Medicare and food stamps. Every year, recipients get more than they did the previous year. So you can feel free to hold such complaints up to ridicule. A parade won’t break us or result in mass starvation.
So, if you are on the right today, try to have a good time watching the parade. If you are on the Left I encourage you to do the same. You don’t need the tribe’s permission to do so. You just need to be an American.
On to the fun stuff!
I am not typically a fan of detective novels. No particular reason. Perhaps some too often fall into the Sam Spade stereotype. “She had hips that swayed like a beautiful ship on the ocean, and eyes you could drown in…”
But last week I stumbled on a guy I knew years ago while working on LinkedIn. I knew he was a writer (I thought he only wrote academic stuff), and he had a publishing business. As it turns out, he has cranked out quite a few novels. So I grabbed one.
Subtle Felonies by Austin S. Camacho was a surprisingly good read. Not that I suspected Austin would be a bad writer, but I din’t expect to be pulled into a detective series. I enjoyed it.
The story starts with the disappearance of a retired celebrity. The work to unravel the whereabouts of the target, and the circumstances of his sudden absence of presence, takes you and the main characters on a roller coaster ride (cliche - I know) with lots of plot points and surprise developments. And like a good detective novel, just when you think you know everything, you don’t.
What kept me reading more than anything was I really wanted to know what happened to ALL the characters. I have a compliment for the ending, but I don’t want to spoil it.
So, if you want a treat this summer, grab a copy of Subtle Felonies or any of the Hannibal Jones mysteries. Enjoy.
