Most of my subscribers are Trump fans. On most things, I am as well. But I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em. Sorry guys.
Bombing Iran and scraping Hamas from the map, I shed not a tear. My heart does not bleed. “Death to America” + nukes? Take ‘em out. 10/7? Take ‘em out!!! I have no problem with that. They earned it! BUT…!
The Donald is given to a few faults. One is being shockingly inarticulate. Some people defend him by saying Trump speaks plainly and you know what he means. Well, Nigel Farage speaks bluntly as well, and you know what he means, but he does it WELL. There is little philosophical light between the two, but one speaks as if he is an educated man. Trump speaks as if he didn’t pay attention in his English and composition classes in college…or middle school.
Trump is also a serial exaggerator. Do you remember his biggest tax cut of all time? I do. It was a good thing. I was all for it. But it was the 8th largest in US history. I don’t know if he really believes his own bullshit. I think it is frightening to think he might - especially now.
So, in the last three days we got two examples of exaggeration that may come back to bite DJT - AND US - on the ass.
Today, while complaining about the ceasefire breaches between Israel and Iran, Trump described Israel’s breach as being the biggest load of bombs he’s ever seen dropped. But that is simply not true. Israel used two planes to take out a launch site; a pin prick.
Does Trump actually believe Israel unloaded on a massive scale in that raid? If so, that’s a real problem. It’s not only a problem of scale. It gives Israel naysayers in his own party and elsewhere cache to spread their shit. Politically, it makes staying the course just a little more difficult. There are too many lame asses in Congress whose support for Israel is only tepid. Why push them away with pure bullshit.
Remember, a lie of exaggeration is still a lie. But if you believe such obvious and wild exaggeration yourself…that’s worse.
After the bunker buster raid, Trump declared Iran’s nuke program obliterated. That MAY be true, but my own bomb assessment gives me no warm fuzzies. There is little doubt he damaged the hell out of several facilities. Fordo is likely beat up. But there is zero evidence it’s been destroyed beyond repair. We may have stopped Iran’s ability to build an intercontinental, nuke-tipped missile. MAYBE. FOR THE MOMENT. But we have no idea if all those trucks, seen at Fordo, moved critical material out.
If so, DJT left two scenarios in place in a rush to declare total victory. 1) Hardliners in Iran take the material they have and create truck bombs and dirty bombs. A cargo container marked generators or drilling equipment could end up anywhere, especially using transshipment through a third party friendly to Iran. Or 2) The phony Imam, Kahmenei, and those same hardliners take the bunker buster raid as the perfect excuse to abandon their domestic nuclear ambitions and just BUY bombs from North Korea or Russia.
BAM! Instant nuclear power.
One raid, no matter how big the bombs, does not a victory make. In order to achieve your goals against an enemy, you must break his will and ability to defy your will - OR YOU DON’T GO. That we have not done. I think there is a CHANCE Trump simply handed Iran the evidence it needs to pursue any course it might in the long term. We should have send at least a bunker buster or two to take out the phony Imam. So long as quasi-religious manipulators remain in power, we don’t KNOW what the big raid achieved.
Keep you powder dry. Cheers.
